review

So you may ask, if I have read Insurgent like ages ago, why I make a review just now?

Simply because, you know, how hard it is to write a review for a book you absolutely, hardcore-ly adore, even though I've read it twice, my mind could not arrange right words for it (so I choose to procrastinating, okay I'm a bad, lazy ass-hat girl). But since I've finished Allegiant, the last book in this series, I feel so wrong if I don't write any reviews of Divergent's sequels, which one of the most beloved series of mine. So here I am, pouring down my thoughts about this book =). I think most of people already read the first book, Divergent. Nevertheless, I still have to warn you that this review might contains spoilers, though I'll my best to minimize it. I've already warned you in the beginning.

----------------------------------

"I wake with his name in my mouth. Will."

Okay, here's the fact : reading Insurgent was pretty tiring for me, pity my little brain.

I seriously got a massive headache once I finished this book (at the first time) because of the never-ending tension and adrenaline rush inside my head. My brain was lacked of oxygen (I held my breath a lot), it was nearly exploded into some ugly lumps. Okay I'm exaggerating, almost. Also this book is mostly depressing, self-destructive thoughts, sadness and grief which was altering my mood that day. But thankfully I still could keep my mind intact, could not put this book down once I started because I was so anxious yet super curious to know what would happen next. Even that massive headache I've got didn't prevent me to LOVE this book and read it once more, (and more in the future) because, well, it's still a FANTASTIC sequel from one of the most amazing series I've read.

Ms. Roth successfully put the whole things in a new different level in this sequel. The story develops more complicated and intense, danger seems constantly lurking, the stakes are higher that made my heart pounding very hard in every scenes. Seems there's no safe place for Tris, Four and the rest survivors of the tragedy that have happened at the end of Divergent. Most of characters step on the next stage of difficulties, especially Tris whom we see the whole story from.

Tris is tortured by grief and a guilt she could not tell anybody including Tobias, she blames herself and many times she acts recklessly and puts herself in a dangerous situation. Because Tris can't tell the whole ugly truth yet, she's also facing a great crisis in her relationship with people who are important to her, Tobias and Christina. Also because she's a Divergent, she's hunted, her life and automatically people who is sided her are in a great danger so she tries to protect them though it costs her own life. Sometimes it was pretty depressing, to see Tris facing so many problems in a time and acting so suicidal but it was quite understandable for me since Tris witnessed the tragedy herself and lost so many because of it. Tris is just an average 16 years old human girl after all.

Like I've said before, the relationship between Tris and Tobias also enters a new level. They face a big mistrust issue which puts their relationship into a bad condition. But thankfully it doesn't add a deep scratch on Tris' already-bleeding-wound and it is still so wonderful and respectable. I loved when Tobias isn't only loving and respecting Tris, he also doesn't hesitate to scold Tris and put their relationship in an edge. They also still maintain some sweet moments , not too explicit but enough to soften the hard tension I've felt through the entire book.

While Divergent told us more about Abnegation, Dauntless and a tiny bit of Erudite, in Insurgent we learn more about Aminity, Candor, Erudite and even Factionless. I really enjoyed those part and made me admired Veronica Roth more, how thoroughly she created this dystopian world, the factions and each characteristics, the politics and regulations in each faction also the reality that there are still an internal friction no matter how neat and structured it is, as realistic as what have happen in nowadays.

Insurgent, like I've said, is a fantastic, solid sequel for Divergent. It's better not to miss this if you're a fan of Divergent because it doesn't only give a great action, characters and drama, but also serves a story about struggle and forgiveness, how you forgive others and most importantly struggles to make a peace with your won self, then responsibly move on. Sounds cliche but I think it's a good thing to get from reading what you love =).
This book, like another great sequels, has quite a surprising ending which would make you questioning what is actually the whole 'Faction System' about and makes you definitely can't wait to read the next book, like I've felt half a years ago. Since I have finished Allegiant, I definitely can't wait to share my thoughts about it, hopefully very soon.

Happy reading! :)

REVIEW : Glitch by Heather Anastasiu

Glitch

Author      : Heather Anastasiu
Publisher   : St. Martin's Griffin
Source      : Bought
Pages        : 308 (Paperback)

Summary from Goodreads :
In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or “glitch”), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret so dark it will mean certain deactivation if she is caught: her glitches have given her uncontrollable telekinetic powers.

As Zoe struggles to control her abilities and stay hidden, she meets other glitchers including Max, who can disguise his appearance, and Adrien, who has visions of the future. Both boys introduce Zoe to feelings that are entirely new. Together, this growing band of glitchers must find a way to free themselves from the controlling hands of the Community before they’re caught and deactivated, or worse.

In this action-packed debut, Glitch begins an exciting new young adult trilogy.

Review :
I believe if you are into Dystopia or Sci-fi reading, you would be immediately drawn to what Glitch might offer you from its blurb above. It was what I felt at the first I knew this book. It seemed offering something cool and fantastic about dystopia world set in a futuristic society with absolute control through a mind-controlling chip implanted inside people's head and when they get 'glitching', they start to have certain supernatural power in sudden. Kind of reminded me with X-men, and I love X-men, so I was having high expectation that this book would be kind of mind-blowing. Sadly, after I finished this book, it was less than I've expected. However I still enjoyed it and still want to look more at the next book because I think this series still have potential to be more exciting.

I really loved the dystopia world Anastasiu built in this book. It's incredibly cool, like what I've imagine about a futuristic, high-tech society and seeing the world from Zoe's side makes it feels more real. I also loved some details like arm-panel with keyboard function, something I assume like USB / microchip slot implanted at the back of neck that can erase or control your mind, and the others, which are both really cool and eerie! But it's also ironic and pitiful that despite how high the technology has been developed, men lost the humanity and live like lifeless cyborg. The story moves in a fast pace and full with cool yet heart-pounding action scenes, shocking twist that make you want to read more and more. But yet, there are some flaws that actually quite bugging me I could not ignore them. Though the story moved in fast pace, somehow I felt it was kind of strange. There was a moment when the story reach an interesting point (I was kind of excited) ,then suddenly it was like, 'pof', everything was like starting all over again. Seriously I felt like being cheated =_=;. Maybe some of you who already read this book would understand what it is and probably feel the same way as I did.

I had a mixed feeling about the characters as well, and what the author has decided on building the relationship between them. At one side, I really liked Zoel, or Zoe. I really understand her anxiety and fear being glitched because for all her life before she was told it was wrong and she's overwhelmed with several new emotions she has never felt before. Her background as a part of the Community made it more believable. I really liked to watch her growing stronger, with Adrien's help, determined and willing to trust her own thoughts and feeling about right and wrong. But at the other side, as far as I want to understand Zoe's process of transforming, I have to agree with some reviewers that she's a bit unstable and inconsistent. Many times I got annoyed and frustrated by her wavering and keep-changing thoughts. There's also Adrien (loved his name because it uses 'e' instead 'a', btw ;p) Zoe's love interest. Compare to heroes from the other Dystopia series, he's not really stand out, except his aquamarine eyes and special ability can have glimpses of the future. He has a tender heart and quite smart, but he also seems weak comparing to Zoe even. Somehow I was disappointed of what the author has decided to be happened on him. I knew the author wanted to make it as a shocking element, but instead it was upsetting me.

The chemistry between Zoe and Adrien is happened too fast, it's obviously insta-love. Zoe's first feeling toward Adrien seemed absurd, she felt this 'connection' between them at the first she saw him, didn't really make sense to me because there was no explanation Zoe have known about this boy before. Not only insta-love, there's a love-triangle as well as Max suddenly declares himself. But at least we don't have to be confused to choose who's the best because I didn't like Max, at all. He's absurdly obsessed with Zoe, such an immature, selfish and arrogant boy I didn't really understand why bother making him as the third person between Zoe and Adrien. Zoe's naive reaction toward Max's temptation, although I clearly understand why, drove me crazy too sometimes, really strange to find a boy with those attitude attractive.

I'm not highly recommend this series but I think it's still worth a try for Dystopia fans. If insta-love doesn't really bug you, probably you could fully enjoy this book. Now it's time for me to grab Override, because, yeah, I need to know more about this series, what will happen to Zoe, Adrien and the rest of glitchers.
Happy reading! =)

REVIEW : Die For Me by Amy Plum

Die For Me

Author      : Amy Plum

My life had always been blissfully, wonderfully normal. But it only took one moment to change everything.

Mysterious, sexy, and unnervingly charming, he put me in danger of losing my heart all over again. But I was ready to let it happen . . . until I realized that Vincent Delacroix is no normal human--that he has a terrifying destiny and enemies who are determined to destroy him and all of his kind.

Can I risk everything for love?

Book trailer :

Cover Glimpse :
Look at it, isn't that so gorgeous??? The cover only is looked really compelling!
I really like how the girl with red dress is posed backward, facing the city ahead, and I spot Eiffel Tower which represent where the story sets in. The pale skin and black swirls that seem creeping on her body add mysterious feeling and you would guess the story is not ordinary.

Review :
Wow, Die For Me is as gorgeous as the cover!

This book was fascinating in many ways. Amy Plum's writing was really great and enjoyable. It flows smoothly and in a right pace, not too rushed not too slow and also well-balanced, it's not only focusing on one element. It has a sweet love story and yet also surprising the other is that she didn't use any kind of undead creature we've known before, instead she created her own, a unique tale about a new kind of undead creature with such a wonderful characters and yes, in one of the most gorgeous city in the world, Paris! Her vivid and detail explanation about some places in this book made me want to go there so bad!

I really like the concept about Revenant. Basically it's kind of Zombie, I've never read book about zombie before so I was kind of excited (though I'm not really a fan of it, I even don't dare myself to watch Walking Dead, by the way) and this one is a better one, a lot better because they appear normal like most human being, except for what they're capable of and their certain routine to gain their power back. Very cool yet very horrific when I imagined what's their purpose and what they have to go through to fulfil it. Although it's not one of the usual dark creature like what we've known all this time, it seems quite convincing and believable, not awkward at all.

The characters both main and support here are very easy to be loved. Kate is an awesome heroine who is progressively developed. She grows stronger and more composed, still can think logically about how Vincent's identity could affect their relationship despite of her deep feeling toward him. I really understand her fear of being hurt by Vincent's compulsion to keep dying. I liked her being honest about her thoughts to Vincent but still willing to fight for their love. About the hero(es) in this book, let me tell you that 'old-fashion' guy(s) have a special place in my heart, and Amy Plum makes perfect ones. I even confused which one was my favorite, Vincent or Jules. Both of them are like chivalrous gentlemen from the past; well, they're literally from the past; with their own traits and charms. Vincent is kind, respectful, pure selfless and also very romantic; then Jules who actually barely appears in this book looks more humorous gentleman. I'd love to read more about Jules on the next book. Then also I loved to read some of other Revenants who are more like family to Vincent and loved to see that they have their own story and problems too. It makes this book more rich and enjoyable to me.

However, I need to admit that this book has some similarities with Twilight, some things of the story strongly remind me to it, the obvious ones are like the condition of Kate and Vincent; a human, ordinary girl and a mysterious guy with dark secret; and Vincent's Revenants family which could slightly remind us with The Cullens. And to be honest, when I realized about it there was a pang of disappointment in me, thought that I would read the same formula like this over and over again though I actually don't really hate it. But as I went further into the story, I found that despite of those similarities, Die For Me still shines brightly on its own way among any paranormal romance I've ever read. I can't wait to read Until I Die that already sits prettily on my shelf.

So peeps, if you are a paranormal-romance fan, or specifically you love(d) Twilight saga, please do check out this charming series. I believe you won't be disappointed.
Happy reading! =)

REVIEW - Noah by Elizabeth Reyes

Noah (5th Street #1)

Author      : Elizabeth Reyes
Source      : Given
Pages        : 254 (e-book)
Publisher  : CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform

Summary from Goodreads :
Veronica Cruz has been through hell and back. After disconnecting with the world two years ago to be at the side of her dying mother, she’s left alone, unemployed, overweight, and feeling a decade older than her twenty-eight years. When her best friend coaxes her into joining the local gym to ditch her depression and rejuvenate her life, she meets Noah. Assigned to help Veronica lose weight, Noah is everything she expected a young trainer to be—perfectly chiseled, supportive and motivating. Add to that, he’s incredibly sexy. He’s everything she’s ever looked for in a man. What she least expected was for him to fall for her, but he has. There's just one glaring problem: Noah is eight years younger.

Noah Quintanilla has his eye on a boxing title—someday. Down for a few months with an injury, his maintenance-boy pay at 5th Street Gym won't cut it. He’s finally given the opportunity to train. The catch? His trainee is an out-of-shape woman with a free week pass. Taking on the challenge, Noah stumbles into one of the closest friendships he’s ever known, and before he knows it, he’s in love. But Veronica’s not having it—the age difference is too much. Their platonic relationship means having to watch her date other men—something that would make him crazy. Believing he's the man for her, Noah sets out to prove that age is but an illusion, and there's more to him than just a number.

Review :
At first, thank you Nana from Reading in The Morning who provided this book for me. I really appreciate it, you know it rite? ;D

Noah happened to be the second contemporary New Adult book I've read after Beautiful Disaster and also the first book I read in 2013 as a refreshing start and yeah, I love it! =D Probably with a right portion like this book, New Adult could be a new favorite genre of mine. The story itself is something I would like immediately. It sounds both realistic and also dreamy at the same time. Seriously, who doesn't want to find unexpected love from the unexpected person, who would love you unconditionally? But in reality, the main issue in this book is not something you can accept lightly, at least for me.

When the first I read the summary, I thought Reyes was pretty bold to pick up this issue as part story concept and I was pretty curious how this issue would work in this story. I imagined if I were Roni, would I want to date a boy who is 8 years younger than me? No matter how hot, sexy, irresistible he was, um... I think I'd like to think twice, no, five times before I decided something like that. I still find a wide age gap between an older girl with a younger boy is kind of awkward, I've read a lot of convincing quotes that told me age is just a number but well, I'm still not convinced enough. Yet, I have to admit this book quite changed my perspective about age-gap between a lover though still only ... a half =p.

Everything about the story feels so right for me. The pace is not too slow yet not too rushed either. Relationship between Veronica and Noah happens quite naturally, how at first they begin it with a good friendship (which is fun, witty, sexy, just wow! =D) and it slowly grows as a love and it's really beautiful. There's a stage where they live together under the same roof because Veronica is a kind heart like that and honestly I was pretty afraid the story would move too 'abruptly' to the next step because of this condition but yet thankfully it's not. I was glad that the author has, what should I call it, a respect for the issue and didn't make Veronica as a dumb girl who jumps easily into such a relationship without think twice and also didn't make Noah as a bastard who force his will to Veronica. They slowly develop their relationship and when it comes, I'm talking about a new year eve scene, the first make-up one, oh wow, pretty hot here *fanning my face*

I simply love the main characters here. Because of thoughts I have previously, Veronica's uneasy feeling and hesitancy about her feeling toward Noah are very relatable. I understand her very well while I also love to see how she struggles to fix her life quality, how she spends her time with Noah (which is very sweet and thoughtful, mutually from both side), knowing him farther and finally found reasons to accept Noah despite of his young age. Noah, oooh he's such a perfect example of a perfect guy and I really adore him. He has a lot qualities in him, physically and mentally. He's naturally well-matured because of his tough life but he still has that sweet, adorable side of a 19 years old boy who easily get jealous when someone is getting closer to a person he loves *swoon*.

As a New Adult novel, this book pretty much has profanities and some explicit smexy scenes but thank God the author didn't abuse it and made it in a pretty right proportion. This book is beautiful and fun, it's not just the romance that can steal every hearts, but also there are a lot of good other things you can see in it. And maybe one important thing I got from this book is that maturity is not depend on number(s) on your age, but from how life has done to shape out our personality =).
So yeah, if you want to read good contemporary romance which is maturer than YA, this novel can be your perfect choice. I can't wait to read Gio, another my favorite boy from Noah's gang. Once again, thank you Nana for providing the sequel as well! =D

Happy reading, everyone! ;)
