REVIEW : Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher

Thirteen Reason Why

Author     : Jay Asher
Publisher  : Matahati (Mpop)
Source     : Bought
Pages       :

Blurb from Goodreads :
Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier.
On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

Through Hannah and Clay's dual narratives, debut author Jay Asher weaves an intricate and heartrending story of confusion and desperation that will deeply affect teen readers.

Again, my first read about Slice of Life novel which unrelated to supernatural things. This book haunted me. It's too real, I was like read person's confession, more like true story than fiction. And it made me couldn't sleep (I read it at 9.30 p.m till 11.30 p.m, and really could sleep well at 2 a.m.) I didn't know, maybe because I can't help but have emphaty toward others. I kept imagine myself stood on Hanna's shoes, so it affected me, disturbed me, made me thought a lot about my attitude and everything I've said to others.
I have to say, if you decided to read this, you have to prepare because this book is very negative, especially when you read Hanna's narrative, but also would give you some lessons (if you're a type who learn something from what you read, like me =p). On reading world, usually I don't really like a main character (I assume Hanna is our heroine here, while we see this story through Clay eyes) who is weak, desperate, and easily give up. But on this book... I did pity Hanna for everything she goes through, how people easily miss-judging her, or everyone, because somebody else's word.

Hanna Baker is a new girl in small town, hope to be accepted, get some good friends at her new place and her new school. But she makes friends and falls in love with wrong people who like to use her for their own good reputation, to play her and all of those ruin Hanna. At first Hanna tries to keeps positive and trust some people, but again their bad reactions make her dissapointed, nobody seems caring about her truly self and willing to hear her, then she gradually lost her trust to everybody else and think she has no reason to live in this world again. And then, there's Clay Jensen, your positive hero here, and very likeable. He is down to earth, not dazzling or flashing, but everyone is kind to him. He has been falling in love with Hanna like forever but has no guts to revealed it. But strangely, Clay who didn't do anything wrong to her before recevies Hanna's only inheritance, a box of 7 cassette tapes and becomes one of 13 persons who become her reason to commited suicide.

You know, me personally think that the best revenge for people who did bad to you is make them feel 'guilty' which is unforgettable and haunting, so Hanna's decision to do something like that is quite wicked and brilliant =p (well, although not all people feel any guilty, like one of person she pointed). At another side, I really mad at her, for her negativity toward people and herself, for her incapability to find good people who will listen to her, and finally her decision to easily end her own life. Her POV beccome worse and worsen, and that's tiring. But in the same time... I understand why she did it and ended with hating all people who force her to did it. I feel and think exactly like what Clay do, angry and guilty, and I believe everyone who face the same case will do the same.

Like i said before, beside a good story, this book gives you a lesson, and important lesson about it's not only guns knives that could kill people. And also, please, please don't lose your hope if you feel like Hanna, because there are many people like Clay out there, who are willing to lend you their ears and shoulders.
This book is really a good read, at least for me so I give is many glasses. You should try this too =)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Today is Christmas Eve and I earlier want to say :

Merry Christmas!

To all of you who celebrate it :D May you have joyous, the warmest, the happiest, wonderful Christmas at this year.
For my case, I don't celebrate Christmas at my own home because it is still renovated. I can't build a Christmas tree, or decorate my house with Christmas things, or eat Christmas ccake with my mom and dad... It a bit sadden me but i think it's the Christmas present from God for me and my family this year : a better house, and especially, a far better room for my sister and me :D

I'm a bit envying people out there who have 'White Christmas' with snow falls everywhere, but all we, Indonesian have here is 'Wet Christmas', with rain pours hard every Christmas night (not really raining tonight, just see tomorrow). Well but it's okay, but please remember what the real meaning of Christmas :

"For God so loved the world that he gave his
one and only Son, that whoever believes in him
shall not perish but have eternal life."
John 3 : 16

Enjoy your parties and gifts, enjoy and have a save trip at your holiday ^^
God bless you all!

My Book Boyfriend #2 : Four

My Book Boyfriend is a weekly blog meme hosted by Missy from The Unread Reader, it's to share fictional boys we crush, include stats, picture and quotes from the character that make us swoon. If you interest to join, visit Missy's introduction post about My Book Boyfriend

Whohoo~
I'm a bit too excited this week, because for today MBB, I choose one of my most favorite boyfriend, The Dauntless boy, Four a.k.a Tobias!
Hm.. I'll try to make this spoiler-free ;)

STATS :
Description : 18 years old boy, Tris's mentor at Dauntless compound. Smart, strong, brave, observer to others and very good with computer. This is how Tris describes him :
"He has a spare upper lip and a full lower lip. His eyes are so deep-set that his eyelashes touch the skin under his eyebrows, and they are dark blue, a dreaming, sleeping, waiting color."
Hair : Dark Brown almost black
Love interest : Tris

Four flips the gun in this hand, presses the barrel to Peter's forehead, and clicks a bullet into place. Peter freezes with his lips parted, the yawn dead in his mouth. "Wake. Up," Four snaps. "You are holding a loaded gun, you idiot. Act like it.”

“Fear doesn't shut you down; it wakes you up. I've seen it. It's fascinating." He releases me but doesn't pull away, his hand grazing my jaw, my neck. "Sometimes I just...want to see it again. Want to see you awake.”

“I frown at him. 'You've been paying close attention, haven't you?'
'I like to observe people'
'Maybe you were cut out for Candor, Four, because you're a terrible liar' -
'Fine', He leans his face closer to mine, his eyes focusing on my chin, and my lips, and my nose. 'I watched you because I like you.' He said it plainly, boldly, and his eyes flick up to mine. 'And don't call me "Four", okay? It's nice to hear my name again'.”

“He turns toward me. I want to touch him, but I’m afraid of his bareness; afraid that he will make me bare too.
‘Is this scaring you, Tris?’
‘No,’ I croak. I clear my throat. ‘Not really. I’m only…afraid of what I want.’
‘What do you want?’ Then his face tightens. ‘Me?’
Slowly I nod.”
“'I have something I need to tell you,' he says. I run my fingers along the tendons in his hands and look back at him. 'I might be in love with you.' He smiles a little. 'I'm waiting until I'm sure to tell you, though.'
'That's sensible of you,' I say, smiling too. 'We should find some paper so you can make a list or a chart or something.'
I feel his laughter against my side, his nose sliding along my jaw, his lips pressing my ear.
'Maybe I'm already sure,' he says, 'and I just don't want to frighten you.'
I laugh a little. 'Then you should know better.'
'Fine,' he says. 'Then I love you.' "

So here he is, Brant Daugherty for my Four =D
I kept thought about him when I read about Four, what do you think? Well Brant doesn't have deep blue eyes but I think he fits all Four physical qualities. And at the last picture, just like Four and guitar, really hawt xD. Okay, I steal a scene from Pretty Little Liars, but since he wears black shirt there, he sure looks like Dauntless right? xD
Squeeeeee!! Brant Fouuuur, I love you! xD
If you want to know more about him, or haven't read Divergent, READ IT. NAO.

Wishlist Wednesday #3

Photobucket
Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it's entirely up to you), that we can't wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.
This blog meme is hosted by Pen to Paper, if you want to join please visit here to find more about this meme.

My book wishlist this week :
Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

Blurb from Goodreads :
Just your average boy-meets-girl, girl-kills-people story. . .

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.

So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.

When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.

And she, for whatever reason, spares his life.

I interest to this book because I read the review from some blogs, and they said this was ah-mazing! =)
I don't really like something horror because I still need my deep sleep (LOL), but I curious since everybody seem love this book. And it would be interesting to read YA novel at male character perspective.

What is your Wishlist Wednesday?

Dusty Reads #5

Dusty Reads is a meme hosted by Giselle from Expresso Reads, featuring a book which has been staying at my bookpile for the longest.

For today Dusty Reads, I pick this book :
Masquerade by Melissa de la Cruz
Blurb from Goodreads :
Schuyler Van Alen wants an explanation for the mysterious deaths of young vampires. With her best friend, Oliver, Schuyler travels to Italy in the hope of finding the one man who can help—her grandfather. Meanwhile, back in New York, preparations are feverishly underway for the Four Hundred Ball, an exclusive gala hosted by the city's wealthy, powerful, and unhuman—a true Blue Blood affair.

But it's at the after-party, a masquerade ball thrown by the cunning Mimi Force, that the real danger lurks. Hidden behind the masks is a revelation that will forever change the course of a young vampire's destiny.

Rich with glamour, attitude, and vampire lore, this second installment in the Blue Bloods saga will leave readers thirsting for more

The original cover :

I admit I bought this because the cover is pretty =p. But I really hesitate to read this, because I've read Blue Blood (which also has a pretty cover) and well....not really enjoy it. This book will decide if I would continue the series or not =/ Anyone have read Blue Blood series?

What's your Dusty Reads this week? =)

REVIEW : Divergent by Veronica Roth

Divergent (Divergent #1)

Author     : Veronica Roth
Publisher  : Katherine Tegen Books
Source     : Bought
Pages       : 489

Blurb from Goodreads :
Beatrice "Tris" Prior has reached the fateful age of sixteen, the stage at which teenagers in Veronica Roth's dystopian Chicago must select which of five factions to join for life. Each faction represents a virtue: Candor, Abnegation, Dauntless, Amity, and Erudite. To the surprise of herself and her selfless Abnegation family, she chooses Dauntless, the path of courage. Her choice exposes her to the demanding, violent initiation rites of this group, but it also threatens to expose a personal secret that could place her in mortal danger. Veronica Roth's young adult Divergent trilogy launches with a captivating adventure about love and loyalty playing out under most extreme circumstances.

No doubt, Divergent is the best book this year.
This book is meaningful for me. Before, I never bought nor read any English version of novels, I have been always buying local translation version. Although maybe I passively and fail-ly fluent in English, I had no will to read something in English. And then I joined book blogger world and found this book blogger that inspired me first to made one Down To The Rabbit Hole (she's now my permanent book reference. thank you so much! =D). I tracked her book review list and found Divergent with 5 bunnies (it's her rating system, cute isn't it =D). She impressively review and high recommend it, then I who never heard about 'Dystopia' word before thought "Wow! I should find this book!". But how to got it, I didn't know. One day I visited a bookstore that sells imported books, and EUREKA! magically I FOUND THIS BOOK! Yippi! My first English version book ever =D Okay, I stop my useless rambling here.

When I read it... wow. WOW.
I instantly felt in love with the idea of this book, the world Roth made, the characters she built, her writing style, everything! Just.... wow.
This book is intense, suspense, ironic, emotional stirring, cruel; I mean it, VERY CRUEL! argh!; but also romantic. This book will grip you till the end. I found my heart throbbed at some scenes, then sad, then happy and rooting for the characters, then angry, then surprised, then happy again, then like 'WHAT THE HEEECK! NO WAAAY!' lol seriously I have to say, after finished this, I was like emotionally tiring, but fully satisfied at the same time =D.

The world Roth makes is Dystopian Chicago that divided into 5 faction : Dauntless (Bravery), Erudite (Knowledge), Amity (Peace), Candor (Honesty) and Abnegation (selfless) which each faction requires its people to act, talk, even use certain attributes that show their faction. I found this idea was interesting, people be required to have only one prominent character, and if they broke it, they would be an outcast, or in this world, be factionless. Wow, how hard it is. If I live at that world, I'm sure sooner or later I'll be factionless =p When teenagers reach their 16, they have to choose one of five factions through some tests to help them decide it. And from that test, Tris discovers that she's a Divergent, she has more than 1 faction result, which means she's terribly in danger.

Tris is one of heroine with very real character. I felt a strong connection with her personality and emotion, so that's why I love Tris so much =). She's a good girl, but she's also not that good either. Like normal 16 years old girl she flaws, the problem is her faction doesn't allow her to show other than selfless. She was born and lived her 15 years as Abnegation which required her to act selfless all the time. And she tries really hard to act selfless and no, not really happy with that. I adored her courage to choose her true self and leaves her Abnegation family, and her decision to be the only one Abnegation to enters the most brutal and explosive faction, Dauntless, since she's from very stable, flat and ordinary faction. After experience Dauntless' challenging and dangerous initiation processes, her personalities distinctly develop to become smarter, braver, more daring and rebel than before, that's to prepare her to face something very terrible happen later she never imagined.
What more interesting is the love story. It's quite unique. I already suspected Four as Tris love interest (yea beside some reviews told it) but there's no single love scene at more than half book. I really really love Four, he's smart and awesome. Four is Dauntless initiates trainer, and from how he acts, he's very firm, strong, unshakable and rude, even to Tris. He treats Tris the same as the other although secretly he concerns and encourage Tris more than other. Although he's has stern and cool appearance, then I found he's also a ordinary boy who hurt and has weaknesses, which makes him human. Tris and Four is a perfect and lethal combination, both of them are deadly smart, brave, and selfless. Really adore this couple =D

Overall, this book is definitely remarkable and also, inspirational :). It stays in your head for quite a moment. Personally, for me Divergent is not just a fiction, it's more than that. This book even can make you stronger, and looking on Tris and Four make me want to be a better person. Really love this book. I already feel like want to read it again from the start :D

Now I desperately can't wait for Insurgent, the next sequel of this book. I want to know more what will happen on this book, what happen on Tris and Four, and some of their Dauntless friends like Christina, Uriah, even... Will ;A; *heartbroken*
If you see this book at bookstore, grab it fast! =D
VERY RECOMMENDED!

P.S : don't mean to bragging, but I think if I live at this world, maybe I'll end as Divergent too :D
Ssstt...! Don't tell anyone! xD

peek a BOOK #1

peek a BOOK is er.. kind of meme I make, to show you a book that tickling my curiosity, either because of the cover, blurb or people's excitement at one time. This is more like 'before' wishlist, but mostly will include in my wishlist =p. Basically I'll spot book / series that I haven't read yet, either it's new or old.
Okay, for the first time, I want to peek this book :

Immortal City by Scott Speer

Blurb from Goodreads:
Jackson Godspeed is the hottest young Angel in a city filled with them. He's days away from becoming a full Guardian, and people around the world are already competing for the chance to be watched over by him. Everyone's obsessed with the Angels and the lucky people they protect - everyone except for Madison Montgomery.

Maddy's the one girl in Angel City who doesn't breathlessly follow the Angels on TV and gossip blogs. When she meets Jackson, she doesn't recognize him. But Jackson is instantly captivated by her, and against all odds the two fall in love.

Maddy is swiftly caught up in Jackson's scene, a world of glamour, paparazzi - and murder. A serial killer is on the loose, leaving dead Angels' wings for the police to find on the Walk of Fame. Even the Guardians are powerless to protect themselves in the face of this threat … and this time it's up to Maddy to save Jackson.

Angels and Hollywood and Murder. Interesting mixture =D.
I read that the author, Scott Speer, is an MTV music video director (and he's still very young! 29 year old =D) so he sure knows well about celebrity life. And usually, male authors make wonderful love story (liek Nicholas Spark, yeah ;D) so i'm looking forward for this title.
Gonna vait for more reviews for this book =)

REVIEW : Just The Sexiest Man Alive by Julie James

Just The Sexiest Man Alive
Author     : Julie James
Publisher  : Elexmedia
Source     : Bought
Pages       : 440 pages

Blurb :
A fabulously fun, romantic comedy from a dynamic new talent.

Nothing fazes Taylor Donovan not in the courtroom and not in her personal life. So when she's assigned to coach People's Sexiest Man Alive for his role in the next big legal drama, she refuses to fall for the Hollywood heartthrob's charms. Even if he is the Jason Andrews

'Just The Sexiest Man Alive'
Yum.
Definitely my favorite chicklit this year because I can re-read it for couple times and never bored of it.

Because read too many paranormal books is not healthy (lol), I searched for contemporary novel to neutralized my mind, and I found this title. At first when I saw this on the Upcoming Release on Elexmedia I was like "Ow, tempting title" but I didn't buy it because I was like "Meh, maybe just another 'meh' adult novel". I just feel tired with some chicklits, sometimes they have more sex scenes than the story itself, sometimes the story is beyond my acceptation, sometimes they're too corny, well, doesn't mean that they're bad, just....a little tired =p. Then, I use Goodreads search engine to take a peek what this book about. And I got fab blurb, good reviews, pretty original cover, they were enough to made me gave a try and.... I LOVE IT!

This novel has everything I love at chicklit kind : light, funny, witty, sarcastic, but also serious and romantic=D. Julie James did an awesome job and I totally fall in love with her writing style. She knows what kind of characters that make us swoon (uh yeah, Jason. I even love his name only). The story flows nicely and at the right pace. James does have a deep knowledge about Law and Hollywood, and how to mixing it into a fabulous love story, since she has worked at those worlds before. One thing, I can enjoy this story more because it almost doesn't have any explicit sex nor kissing scenes (well, only slightly at the end part), and indeed, still very romantic and sweet =D

Taylor Donovan is my favorite heroine type, I just really like how Julie James built her. I love her for being a pretty, confident, smart and strong woman with cool job as a lawyer. Her fail engagement maybe doesn't distract her from her work life but it does traumatize her. It's hard for her to trusts any other man and hesitates to starts a new relationship again. Then one day she's forced to holds a project with Jason Andrews, a Hollywood actor. Jason is not just a Hollywood actor, he's the biggest, hottest, and scandalous actor at his era.
And Jason...oh Jason xD
Because all qualities he has, Jason is friggin' arrogant. But surprisingly he's also very funny, caring and childish at his thirties, he just shows it to everyone he trusts and cares, like Jeremy his BFF and of course, Taylor. I enjoyed and cracked a lot while read his parts and I really-really love him. I always attracted to arrogant and childish heroes, I find them cute. I know something wrong with me, lol.
Their relationship grows slowly but very cutely anf nicely. Taylor doesn't fall easily to Jason and his Hollywood charms. At first she thought she hated him, she kept saying no, even slammed her office door in front of Jason's nose. But then she realizes Jason is more than his actor facade. Jason too at first he thinks Taylor is just the same as every woman he dated or dumped. He's wrong and totally falls for her unique personalities he never find before. You can say although he's the best actor in this world, he tries really hard to get Taylor.

I like the friends too : Jeremy, Kate and Valerie. They're lovable, funny, supportive, really good friends, especially Jeremy. I was once hoped that Jer hooked to Kate or Val, but no further story about it. Hm..too bad :)

This is my first book of Julie James and I NEED MOAR! I have to find some more of her works. Soon I'll get "Something About You", an FBI series. Whoohoo!
So... you like chicklit? You dream to date any Hollywood guy?
Try to read this one =D

Dusty Reads #4

Dusty Reads is a meme hosted by Giselle from Expresso Reads, featuring a book which has been staying at my bookpile for the longest.

For this week, my dusty reads is the one that turns into the most anticipated movie next year, Hunger Games

Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

Blurb from Goodreads:
Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

Can you believe I haven't read Hunger Games yet? Oh my... /facepalm/
This is one of best series ever but I even haven't start to read any single page xD The story is a bit similar with Japanese manga turned to movie, Battle Royal (students in the baddest class are isolated at the unknown island and have to survive and kill each other until only one left. I only watched the movie and too sick to read the manga. Urgh) which is incridibly violent and full of blood. So although I really want to, I'm afraid I can't enjoy Hunger Games like people do. But I have to read this before the movie released =D Can't wait!

What's your Dusty reads this week? Please share because I want to know ;)

Cover Reveal #3 : Immortal Rules, Deity, Onyx

For this week I want to share 3 revealed cover of upcoming novels on 2012. I haven't read the previous books of these yet, but I quite excited to and hope soon I can read this series.

Immortal Rules (Blood Of Eden #1) by Julie Kagawa
Expected publication: April 24th 2012 by Harlequin Teen

Blurb from Goodreads :
You will kill. The only question is when.

In the dark days since the insidious Red Lung virus decimated the human population, vampires have risen to rule the crumbling cities and suburbs. Uncontested Princes hold sway over diminished ranks of humans: their "pets." In exchange for their labor, loyalty and of course, their blood, these pets are registered, given food and shelter, permitted to survive.

Unregistered humans cling to fringes, scavenging for survival. Allison Sekemoto and her fellow Unregistereds are hunted, not only by vampires, but by rabids, the unholy result of Red Lung-infected vampires feeding on unwary humans. One night, Allie is attacked by a pack of rabids, saved by an unlikely hero...and turned vampire.

Uncomfortable in her undead skin, Allie falls in with a ragtag crew of humans seeking a cure, or cures: for Rabidism and for Vampirism. She's passing for human...for now. But the hunger is growing and will not be denied. Not for friendship—not even for love
Wew, the story seems so thrilling~
I'm Julie Kagawa's fans through her Iron Fey series, so I look forward for this one too.

Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Expected publication: May 2012 by Entangled Publishing

Still no blurb revealed.
The title reminds me of Blackberry species. Lol.
I interested to the first book, Obsidian that received so many good reviews from other bloggers out there. The cover is not my taste. It looks raw and need retouch, although the models are both hot.

Deity (Covenant #3) by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Expected publication: November 6th 2012

Still no blurb revealed.
Same as above, Half Blood becomes my wishlist after read many good reviews about it. The cover is really hot! I love it like the previous 2, Half Blood and Pure.
